JUNKED MOTOR VEHICLES

ACCORDING TO THE CITY OF HOUSTON

Inoperable or Junked Motor Vehicle:

Inoperable or junked motor vehicles must be stored in an approved manner or in a building. A junked or inoperable vehicle is any vehicle that does not have lawfully affixed to it either an unexpired license plate or a valid safety inspection certificate, that is wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled or discarded or that is inoperable and remains inoperable for a continuous period of more than 30 days. The inoperable vehicle must be screened by completely enclosing the vehicle in a building. Car covers, tarps and bamboo shades and other types of materials are not acceptable screening.

An inoperable Antique or Special Interest vehicle may be stored on the property. If the vehicle is stored in an outside storage area, it must not constitute a health hazard and must be screened from ordinary public view by means of a solid fence, rapidly growing shrubbery or other appropriate means. An antique vehicle means a passenger car or truck that was manufactured in 1925 or before, or a passenger car or truck that is at least 35 years old. A special interest vehicle means a motor vehicle of any age that has not been modified or altered from the manufacturer's original specifications and because of its historic interest, is being preserved by hobbyists.
